The farmhouse & pool [click to enlarge]The thing that draws you to Le Marronnier is the chestnut tree in front of the farmhouse - it bends away from the building, so sheltering it from the weather. The view over the surrounding countryside from the front of the house is simply stunning.

The pool and terrace are just a few steps away from the front door through a little gate in a dry-stone wall in the grounds.View of the pool [click to enlarge]

The gate to the pool [click to enlarge]Around the pool, gravel dry flowerbeds and rock gardens have been planted with flowers, lavender, rosemary and other herbs which attract masses of butterflies to the grounds. A large barn shelters the house on the west side and provides support for grapevines which scramble up the dry stones. Guests are welcome to pick figs, walnuts, blackberries and plums as they ripen.

There are plenty of grassy areas in the grounds for games of boules, badminton and football - or just sit by the pool and gaze at the wonderful view. A lazy evening barbecue with a glass or two of local wine is a perfect way to end the day - and as the sun sets, the pool takes on a magical quality with romantic garden lights illuminating the water.Le Marronnier’s top field [click to enlarge]
